Find out about Registering a Child

If you have a child aged up to 15 who has been diagnosed or treated with cancer in the passed 4 years and lives in or around Leicestershire we would like to invite you to register them with Charlotte's Smiles.  We believe that it is important for children and families living with cancer to have lots to look forward to. We know that the treatments can be harsh and that something to look forward to can help children to get through the hardest times. We also believe that smiles are precious and our activities and parties are designed to create as many smiles as possible.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How will my child benefit once registered?

Activities:
Our aim is to offer one personal activity for each child per year.  See our activities page. Each Easter your child will be invited to an Easter Party a Summer outing and the Pantomime at Christmas. See our activity gallery for pictures of previous outings.

Parties:
We have previously offered small pony parties as an activity. During 2009 we will be starting to offer fun pony parties to all our registered children in addition to their activity where possible. As the year progresses some of the other advertised parties will become available.

What if my child is ill and can't do the activity planned?

We know that it is difficult to plan ahead as your child's health can change daily. We are therefore very flexible and ask you to just let us know as soon as you know that the activity can't take place. When possible we will invite another child to take the place.

Will brothers and sisters benefit?

We know that when a family has a child that is ill, all the family is affected. Brothers and sisters worry about their sibling. The illness necessarily takes time and attention away from siblings and social events become harder to organise. Charlotte's Smiles try to help by inviting the whole family where possible to the Easter party, summer outing and pantomime. Depending on the activity chosen by the registered child, siblings and friends can sometimes be included.

What does Charlotte's Smiles expect from us?

We do not expect anything in return. We know that smiles are precious and our activities are designed to create as many smiles as possible. Our supporters and fundraisers love to see the children's smiling faces. It is lovely to see the children having fun. We do however invite you to send us your smiley face photos following Charlotte's Smiles activities so that we can let our supporters and other parents like you see what we are doing.

We also appreciate your support in letting other parents know about Charlotte's Smiles, so they too can take advantage of the activities and parties offered by us.

What if my child would prefer to do something not listed?

If you or your child have an idea for a party or activity they would like that is not listed please email us at charlottes.smiles2@gmail.com even if they are not ready to have the activity yet. We may be able to help.

When will my child be awarded an activity?

Awards are not made on a first come basis. We do prioritise according to need and availability of suitable activities. (see equal opportunity policy). To be able to offer an activity when your child is also able to take part we need you to keep in touch with us to let us know the best time.

It is important for us to know as much as possible about your child's medical background and state of health in order to plan appropriate activities and to time them appropriately. We also need to know as much as possible about your child's preferences.  Please try to indicate on the registration from which activities he/she may be interested in from the Activities page
